This weekend is the Butt Family Adventures Reunion and we are all SOOO excited! If you haven't read my other blog, then you probably don't know what the Butt Family means. Basically, it's our families' aliases. Since we were little, my family would go up to the Shoemake's Hab House for spring breaks and summer vacations. We'd spend the whole week hiking, hanging out in Helen, tubing, and making arts and crafts. Sooo many memories of being up there. I guess you could say we were raised up there without having to say that we lived up there. We then would expand our hiking trips to the Blue Ridge Parkway and a few other surrounding areas.
Well.... if you've ever hiked with the Ditmores and Shoemakes you're bound to know that we do some pretty stupid stuff on our trips, from creating our own trails down a mountain because it's storming and the trail wasn't fast enough.... to hiking up to a peak of a mountain to watch the sunset, then realize we don't have flash lights to make it back down. Let's just say, we learned that if you yell or whistle three times, people come out of the woodwork to "rescue" you. We decided to keep from further embarrising ourselves, we'd have made up names to protect our identities.
The Butt Family names came about from an old song about The Butt Sisters..... Bertha, Beulah, and Bathsheba... cave women actually. Yes.... an actual song exists.... so from there on, if you hiked with the Butt Family, you earned your Butt Name..... I'm Bertha Butt, Mom is Beulah Butt and Adena is Bathsheba. Now... as far as the others, I'm not real sure. I know MOST of the Butt Names, BUT a lot of them keep changing. We really should have written them down years ago because of this very reason, but I'm sure between all of us, we'll have them all figured out again for the weekend.
I can't wait.... I believe every one of us will be up there this weekend, so there's bound to be plenty of fun to be had. I'll be sure to post pictures from this weekend when we get back. Here are a few old pictures from back in the day with some of the Butts.
